You’ve heard the saying… It’s as easy as 1 2 3. That’s how easy it is to enroll in Medicare when you’re turning 65!
Step 1: Contact the Social Security Administration to enroll in Medicare 3 months before your 65th birthday or you can do it the month of or 3 months after.
Step 2: Once enrolled in original Medicare, look into getting an optional, supplemental plan within 3 months of enrollment.
Step 3: Enroll in a Part D Plan… that’s mandatory.
Some other tips:
When turning 65, the SSA will automatically enroll you into Medicare if you’re already collecting social security. Once you have Medicare, there are programs that could possibly help with Medicare Part B and prescription costs, depending on income.
