Johnson Hall – Mourning at Johnson Hall

The July 11, 1774 death of Sir William Johnson will be commemorated on July12 with period interpretation between 11am and 1pm. The Hall will be dressed in mourning, and reenactors will accompany the casket of Sir William in the White Parlor and discuss the Baronet's death, funeral and 18th century mourning practices. The Hall will remain dressed in mourning on July 13.

Johnson Hall – Lecture – “Slavery in the Mohawk Valley”

Usually considered a "Southern" issue, slavery played a surprisingly large role in colonial and revolutionary era New York. Travis Bowman, Curator with the New York State Bureau of Historic Sites, will examine how slavery evolved in New York under the Dutch, British, and American systems of government and how the institution was utilized at a local and personal level in the Mohawk Valley.
